FAQs
Interested in learning more about the HRHS Program? Looking for ways to get involved? Here are some of our most frequently ask questions
What is the HRHS Theatre Program? The HRHS Theatre program consist of both our Theatre Classes and the afterschool theatre program. It covers all theatre events including drama club, competition plays, and the spring musical.
Who can participate in Classes? All HRHS students are required to take an art class at some point during their High School career. Our beginning theatre class is available for all students, regardless of experience or grade level. It introduces students into all aspects of theatre, including public speaking, acting, behind the scenes work, and script writing and analysis. After they take beginning theatre, they gain access to a few other theatre courses to take. To learn more about the classes we offer, please explore our "classes" page.
Do students have to be in a class to participate in the afterschool program? Absolutely not! While a lot of our students choose to do both classes and the afterschool program to get the most opportunities to do theatre, they are able to be done separately. That also means students do not need to participate in the afterschool program if they are in a class (while some classes do have some afterschool components).
What kind of shows do you put on? Throughout the school year we do a BUNCH of different productions, in fact, in the 2025-2026 year we put on 16 productions! Some of our productions are smaller and include a shorter time commitment for students (ex: Fall Talent Show, Spring Showcase, 24 Hour Theatre Festival), some are attached to a specific theatre class or event (ex: NCTC One Act Theatre Conference, Beginning Theatre Showcase, Advanced Theatres Neofuturism Show), and some are more elaborate productions (ITS Filmworks Film Competition, Student Directed One Acts). Our most popular production is our Spring Musical that takes place in February with auditions happening in early November. This year, we will be putting on School of Rock the Musical!
How can students get involved in theatre? Students can start by taking a beginning theatre course or attending our drama club meetings. In both of those places, Ms. Gozy will introduce theatre opportunities for students to participate in. It also helps students to pay attention to the morning announcements, pay attention to our website/social media, and join the band app for the most recent updates!
How can I as a parent get involved in theatre? We are always looking for parent volunteers and support from our community. Start by reaching out to our theatre director or parent booster board to introduce yourself. You can also join our parent band app to learn about any upcoming opportunities.
Is there a participation fee? All students who take an arts class are required to pay a $20 arts fee to help cover class materials. Any student who participates in the afterschool theatre program (participates in at least 1 show/event a year) is also required to pay the $100 booster fee. Information about fees is listed under our "Tickets and Fees" Page. Scholarships are also available as needed. The application can be found at the top of this page.
Can a student participate in multiple clubs and still do theatre? Yes! We have a lot of overlap with our theatre students who also participate in sports, band, and other clubs. The biggest thing is for the student to stay up to date with all theatre announcements and communicate any scheduling conflicts accordingly. We are willing to work with students schedules and make something work.
